The Geek Squad drives around in black-and-white faux police cruisers; and yes, they come to your door in full uniform, brandishing computer badges. Clients say the company lives up to its nerdy name, offering soup-to-nuts computer service—they will install anything from a wireless home network to a 150-machine corporate system.
The LA precinct of the Minneapolis-based Geek Squad features two technicians, both of whom are well-versed in PC and Mac. Clients praise the company's free phone support for existing customers. The Geek Squad is officially associated with Best Buy, maintaining service centers in many of the chain's stores, so the firm sells Best Buy and Geek Squad hardware products.
LA's Geek Squad patrols most of the Westside and up to Pasadena and Burbank. "Special Agent 101" (a.k.a. principal Jonathan Jedeikin) and his sidekick are available 24 hours a day and charge prices that are on the higher end of the spectrum. However, the good citizens they serve appreciate their expertise and advice, even if "the novelty act can get a little tired."
