A guiding light in the industry, this firm offers world-class, unparalleled lamp and shade designs. For over 50 years, Carl's Custom Lamps and Shades has catered to a high-end retail and trade clientele, who applaud the firm's craftsmanship and professionalism. So beautiful that they ought to be in pictures, Carl's lamps tend to be featured in about six to ten movies a year. But this firm is no prima donna—customers tell us they love how the staff make them feel "so at home."
As far as creativity is concerned, the sky's the limit. Bring in almost any item "from the traditional to the outrageous" and owner Carl Freedman and his team can make it into a lamp. Shades are either hand sewn or laminated, using the client's pick of silks, cottons and vintage fabrics. We hear that Freedman is as pleased to see a person come through the door with a simple lamp project as to see one of the LA stylemakers who depend on him. Carl's can accommodate jobs large and small, from basic items that are reasonably priced to over-the-top works of art. A straightforward job takes about two weeks—more complex jobs are welcome, but they take a bit more time.
