FR Review:
Sources tell us Michael C.F. Chan demonstrates "an artist's touch in perfect balance with an architect's eye." From impeccably detailed neoclassical Louis XV to picture-perfect stark modernism, Chan has an excellent feel for fine subtleties and puts a tremendous amount of research into whatever style or period his client desires. We're told his firm is one of LA's best-kept secrets, accepting large high-end custom estates and sprawling single-family homes. It also designs the interiors for limited projects.
The sole principal of his firm, Chan gets good reviews for his refined personality and elegant taste. He holds architecture degrees from USC and Harvard. The practice was established in 1983 and currently oversees ten employees, working most often in Beverly Hills, Malibu, Thousand Oaks, Pasadena and other affluent neighborhoods. Chan also takes on a significant number of assignments in Manhattan and the Hamptpns, and he has been commissioned globally in Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and London.
Approximately 80 percent of Chan's practice is the design of residential projects, with the remainder of his efforts on projects such as corporate headquarters for large companies. For large budgets, the firm's costs are standard.
Representative Client Comments:
"He's not afraid to be different. You can find a lot of ‘cut and paste' architects out there, but Michael is his own man, no doubt." "The mood created by the lighting and its placement is an absolute perfect combination of artificial and ambient light." "He's very innovative, but it's not forced—it comes naturally to him."
