FR Review:
Experienced at putting the spotlight on the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Santana, Kaplan, Gehring and McCarroll Architectural Lighting knows how to create drama and atmosphere. With fifteen employees, KGM's lighting design team is larger than most, but the boss is never far away. Clients appreciate that one of the firm's three partners—Joe Kaplan, Michael Gehring or David McCarroll—manages each project.
KGM takes on about 80 projects per year, 50 percent of which are residential. Its high-profile, mostly Southern California clientele includes Leonardo di Caprio, Sony Pictures and the Universal Citywalk. But this deluxe firm has done jobs all over the world, ranging from renovations of less than 5,000 square feet to a 54,000 square foot log cabin in British Columbia to posh Las Vegas hotels and commercial projects in Asia.
Sources say the firm works closely and successfully with interior designers and architects. We hear the team at KGM is as sensitive to a client's needs as they are to a system's energy efficiency. The firm is noted for providing watertight plans and fixture specifications, which are particularly important since mountings are integral. While the firm knows product inside and out, KGM does not procure it, but acts as an owner's watchdog in the process. Fees are on a sliding scale based on price per square foot. Prices reflect this in-demand firm's illustrious reputation.
Representative Client Comments:
"Everybody knows these guys are the wizards of light." "Las Vegas, Tokyo, Seattle. They go everywhere, and everybody knows them." "The architect made my new home beautiful, but KGM made it luxurious."
