FR Review:
Letting the artistry speak for itself, Diaz-Azcuy creates unparalleled, understated drama with accessible luxury in a minimalist mode. Employing architectural simplicity and shots of vibrant color, Diaz-Azcuy assiduously limits each design to its essential elements, which are executed with exacting beauty and comfort. Based in San Francisco and New York, but with a worldwide following, Diaz-Azcuy does several projects in Los Angeles each year. Clients feel as if they are graced with the thoughts of a legend, and trust his judgment implicitly.

With an undergraduate degree in architecture and master's degrees in landscape architecture and city planning, Cuban-born Diaz-Azcuy has an expansive view. After working with landscape icon Lawrence Halprin and then with Gensler Architects in San Francisco for twelve years, Diaz-Azcuy founded his own firm. There is an effective staff of fourteen (all clothed in white lab coats in their neutral office setting), including several licensed architects and senior designers who manage about twenty major ongoing projects. Diaz-Azcuy sets the direction for each design and approves each presentation. Commissions have included hotels in Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan and the States, but most of the interior work is residential. The firm has designed furniture, fabrics and accessories for a range of companies, including McGuire, Hickory Business Furniture, Stow Davis, Steelcase, Schumacher and Boyd Lighting. Diaz-Azcuy travels and lectures extensively, and teaches a summer session at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard.

Undertakings are generally for the seriously committed with strong budgets. While most of the furnishings are custom crafted with exacting details, Diaz-Azcuy has been known to appropriately incorporate Ikea and Gump's. The firm charges lower to higher hourly rates, meaningful travel costs and a lower product markup. HB Top Designers, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004. ID Hall of Fame.
