FR Review:
With a conservative bent that reflects his established clientele, David Phoenix delivers updated, neutral designs for comfortable living. Taupes and creams, mixed with warm woods, black highlights of leather and buffalo plaids often factor in. With Phoenix's streamlined, classic forms, clients say there is always a light where you need one, usually with a fine silk shade. Textures, patterns and layers are blended casually, the expensive mixed with the good and solid. Each room has a historical base, while accommodating the client's preferences and personal finds.
Beginning in the Brunschwig & Fils sample room in LA, Phoenix truly learned the business from the inside out. After working in Ralph Lauren's interiors department for several years, Phoenix began doing interiors on his own in 1994. Now a staff of four supports him in about six major installations per year. Phoenix is reported to be very speedy and very hands-on, picking every fabric and sitting in every armchair. Clients include many notable "bankers, politicians and celebrities," including Dick Reardon, Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Will & Grace's Sean Hayes and GAP CEO Paul Pressler. Phoenix is currently overseeing the renovation of the governor's office in Sacramento.
Working on whole houses or in a few rooms, Phoenix discusses budgets up front and quickly delivers a finished product. A retainer is taken at the outset with standard markups on product. Supporters feel that Phoenix is very committed and do not hesitate to highly recommend him.
