FR Review:
For many traditionalists looking to delve into the modern game, Dennis Gibbens is the architect of choice. While Gibbens is best known for his work in classical framework, more recently he has been creating clean, streamlined contemporary spaces with "the warmth and the woods of past eras." A New York transplant, Gibbens brought a classical sense of proportion with him when he came to Los Angeles, and has since gained a reputation for incorporating fine details. Clients say Gibbens is "more like a magician than an architect" in his ability to translate abstract concepts into tangible design. This "highly responsive and professional" firm's workload includes both substantial remodels and ground-up designs of free-standing single-family homes. Gibbens also incorporates interiors and the surrounding landscape into his designs.

Clients appreciate how Gibbens "listens and interprets," tailoring his ideas into "what you envisioned, as long as he thinks it is a good idea." They tell us "he's got great taste" and proves "delightful to work with." Gibbens received his Master of Architecture from Columbia and worked as a designer in the offices of I.M. Pei and Partners before starting his private practice in 1986. He moved to Los Angeles in 1991 and is the sole principal of a firm of five.

While Gibbens has maintained a working presence in New York City, he's mostly found these days in celebrity-saturated neighborhoods like Beverly Hills, Hancock Park, Bel Air and Brentwood. A-list clients have included Kevin Costner, Debra Messing, Renée Zellweger and David Hyde Pierce. The firm concentrates on residential commissions that average 7,000 square feet and generally range from $300 to $400 per square foot, but can go much higher.

Representative Client Comments:
"The process can be incredibly disruptive in the client's life, but Dennis is an excellent coordinator, taking the load off my shoulders." "He will continue to modify his ideas until you both agree." "Dennis is such a calm, warm presence, and is so discreet." "Because we were doing an addition to an old shingle-style home, he had to mesh the old with the new, and he did it seamlessly and in an appealing way." "An incredibly talented and humble man."
