FR Review:
Thomas Proctor is praised for his precise and diligent approach to design and his affinity for "doing it all himself—including all drawings and all site meetings—to make sure it gets done right." Proctor excels in crafting "beautifully detailed" traditional homes in the Mediterranean-revival and American-classical styles, as well as more modern designs. Proctor, a sole proprietor who is "not big on middle people," delights in his direct and personal working relationship with the client and contractors.

Clients love being exposed to Proctor's deep reservoir of knowledge about historic architecture, calling the experience an "education." Proctor holds architecture degrees from UC Berkeley and UCLA and also trained in Florence, Italy. Proctor's forte is designing large ground-up single-family homes. Once the neighbors see what he has done, they sign up for a project themselves as soon as he is available. Proctor practices mainly in Brentwood, Holmby Hills, Beverly Hills and Bel Air, and his clientele tends to be executives from the finance/banking community. Current projects range from 7,500 to 12,000 square feet, although he's happy working on something as small as a pool house "as long as it's an intellectual challenge." Proctor's fees skew slightly on the lower end, with costs per square foot at standard levels for the excellent result.

Representative Client Comments:
"Tom is by far the most talented architect I have ever met." "He's so well educated and really shows an understanding of historic precedent and the principles of proportion." "Superb taste. Hovers over construction with an eagle's eye." "I got an education from the man in Italian architecture." "Is so attuned to detail that sometimes things take longer than you might hope, but I'm not complaining." "He has so much work he does not list the firm in the phone book." "He can consider 36 ways a window might hang in the wall." "Incredibly traditional one-man show, an old school gentleman." "He understands the architecture beautifully but also knows how to make it beautifully livable."
