FR Review:
Known for its authentic innovative architecture, Morphosis surpasses the bounds of traditional form and materials and pushes the envelope of modern and postmodern design. Sloped structures, canted walls, electronic windowpanes that appear opaque with the push of a button and unusual geometric shapes are their quintessential trademark. Principal Thom Mayne's "radical and original" work fuses art and technology and has won this pathfinder many awards, including the Pritzker Architecture Prize. Aficionados and clients are intrigued with the firms "risk-taking" style.

Born in Connecticut, Mayne's family moved west when he was quite young and settled in Southern California. After graduating from USC he taught at Pomona and teamed up with other notables to form the unorthodox school of architecture, SCI-Arc. Mayne formed Morphosis in 1972 and received a master's degree from Harvard during the latter part of the 1970s. Apart from serving on many faculties here and aboard, he holds a faculty position at the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture and serves as the Executive Director of the Now Institute.

Currently, the firm employs 60 architects directed by Mayne, Arne Emerson, Ung-Joo Scott Lee, Brandon Welling and Eui-Sung Yi. The majority of its commissions are drawn from commercial and institutional sectors with some residential projects. The establishment's accolades include the renowned Diamond Ranch High School in Pomona and the Alaska State Capitol building in Juneau. Morphosis's star continues to rise, creating rootless architecture that flourishes on the West Coast and all over the world.
