FR Review:
Michael Lehrer's homes have a strong sense of place, realized through a clear spatial order. Known for the consistency of related linear elements that assume a vastness of light, a Lehrer home is also grounded in the clients' "rituals of life." Preoccupied with space, views and the integration of the outdoor with the indoor, his aesthetic tends toward a refined modernism.

An AIA Fellow, Lehrer brings a "stable" and intellectually thorough presence to the proceedings. The sole principal of this twelve-person firm, he has an undergraduate architectural degree from UC Berkeley and a graduate degree from Harvard. Prior to starting his own business in 1985, Lehrer served as senior project architect with renowned architect Frank Gehry. Whether working on the renovation of an older home or the conceptual design of a sleek single-family home, Lehrer earns kudos for his abstract problem-solving skills and preternatural ability to maximize space. Sources tell us Lehrer and his "responsible and talented" team incorporate state-of-the-art technology to create dynamic and highly detailed renderings and schematics.

Lehrer works mostly in LA, including enclaves such as Brentwood, Silver Lake, Pacific Palisades and parts of Orange County, and has also completed projects in Northern California, Florida and Pennsylvania. Residential commissions constitute about 30 percent of the firm's work. The outdoor work on many of Lehrer's projects is done in conjunction with his wife, the renowned LA landscaper Mia Lehrer. New homes are between 1,200 and 13,000 square feet at approximately $350 per square foot, with the architect charging an hourly based fee that works out to roughly a standard percentage of construction.

Representative Client Comments:
"Mike really believes in the preservation of the home as a sanctuary. To reach this elevated perspective, he puts more thought into the project than most other architects." "Very reliable and responsible." "Mike deeply cares about his clients and wants them to enjoy the process as much as the result." "He's very warm and friendly and we liked him immediately." "The project architects are also excellent." "If you have an idea, Mike will always try to make it work." "He goes after each corner until it makes complete sense and is beautiful." "The design he gave us was creative and unusual, and it fit the site like a glove." "Very sensitive to the environment, incorporating natural elements and the landscape into the design." "It is intimate and grand at the same time." "Mike is so thoughtful, and yet so practical."
