Clients appreciate Christopher Coleman's confident mix of geometric shapes, clean lines, exuberant colors and warm undertones. They also applaud his enthusiasm, wit, warm personality and willingness to take design risks. Following five years with Renny Saltzman, Coleman founded his design practice in 1993.
Based in New York, Coleman recently made his Los Angeles debut with residences in Pacific Palisades, Westwood and House Beautiful's showcase in Brentwood. Coleman's modern, intelligent forms are perfectly suited for California living and have been very well received. Past clients include Harper's Bazaar editor Kate Betts, Helen Henson (Jim's wife), Time Inc. chairman Don Logan, many established professionals and also young couples decorating their first homes. Clients credit Coleman for taking the time to educate them about the design process—including classical historic styles, economic alternatives and timing. Other strengths include a sensitivity to family living, a flair for mixing the old with the new and Coleman's contacts with highly creative artisans. Coleman works with a smaller up-front design fee, lower percentage over net for products and no hourlies. He is known for his ability to make the most of less with high-style excitement on a modest budget.
