FR Review:
For one-of-a-kind masterpieces, designers seek out Michael Savoia's one-man firm. A master of delicate embroidery and hand beading, Savoia puts his unique stamp on draperies, upholstered furniture, pillows and tablecloths. We hear Savoia is a true artisan, whose list of specialties includes embroidery over applique, touches of beads and semi precious stones, as well as a line of beautiful linen textiles. With work this fine, it's no surprise that clients are "very high profile."

Before launching his own business, Savoia had worked in the offices of Donghia and Mimi London, and dabbled in design work. Four years ago Savoia, who holds a masters in weaving and textile design from Edinburgh State University in Pennsylvania, moved his studio to Providence, Rhode Island where he practices his art as well as teaches it at the renown Rhode Island School of Design. A nineteenth-century hand-guide machine does most of the stitching, but decorators say Savoia can be found frequently sewing smocking by hand himself. We're told that Savoia's inventive mind enjoys a challenge, and when a customer recently asked him to re-create a piece of seventeenth-century Greek embroidery, he was happy to oblige.

Projects are taken and completed on a first-come, first-serve basis, depending on complexity. Prices fall at the high end of the range, with 50% paid up front, but the regular clients of Villa Savoia stand ready to pay a premium for high-end boutique embroidery.

Representative Client Comments:
"Savoia's embroideries are a work of art, and he is the best artisan around. I use him exclusively to embroider all my clients' draperies." "A great craftsman and a great human being."
