FR Review:
We hear Lubowicki & Lanier's work is imbued with a "material-ness" that reflects an honesty about how architecture is realized in form. By editing their designs to the essence, the complexity of construction reveals an unusually "lovely and really interesting" modern space. Much is left in its raw natural form, allowing the light to soften the edges. The firm has designed several award-winning and widely published residential and commercial projects, for which it has fabricated furniture pieces. Insiders applaud Lubowicki & Lanier for its thrilling integration of art and architecture, client and environment.
Clients tell us principals Paul Lubowicki and Susan Lanier are "unusually helpful." Before founding the firm in 1988, Lanier received a Masters in Architecture from SCI-Arc and worked for Morphosis Architects, while Lubowicki graduated from Cooper Union School of Architecture and worked with Frank Gehry. They are clearly a bright and intellectual pair—Lanier brings a psychology and literature background to her work, while Lubowicki currently teaches at SCI-Arc. The duo lectures on architecture frequently, from the UCLA School of Architecture to The Architectural League of New York.
Representative Client Comments:
"They are so much fun to work with." "You'd be remiss not to consider them." "A protégé of Frank Gehry. Frank has incredible regard for Paul." "Not for everybody, their work can be quite intellectually driven." "There is an openness of spirit, physical lines that are so unique and so inviting." "What modern would be like if visualized by a pioneer of the Great Plains."
