FR Review:
Formerly Pizzinini Luxemburg Thorsteinsson, now rechristened Minarc, this international firm brings a playful, avant-garde approach to its Bauhaus-flavored modern designs. The firm is known both for its distinct skills in converting centuries-old spaces and is designing ground-up homes that lean toward a brave new world. We're told Minarc pushes the envelope of form and function, using bold primary colors and low-maintenance concrete panels in exteriors. The firm's interiors go for a relaxed livability, simple not spare, with lots of wood finishing.

In business since 1989, this firm has offices in LA, Luxembourg and Vienna. There are five people in the LA office, which takes on about ten projects annually. Principals Regina Pizzinini and Leon Luxemburg both worked with the esteemed firm of Moore Ruble Yudell and both studied in Austria and at UCLA. Fellow principal Tryggvi Thorsteinsson holds a degree from SCI-Arc.

The firm takes on historic rehabilitation, new single-family home construction and remodeling in Europe and LA. On the side, the firm is independently developing some very attractive modular homes at $100 per square foot. Minarc's Los Angeles homes average 3,000 to 4,000 square feet, with the firm taking on something as small as a kitchen and bath redo or as large as a renovation of a 14,000 square foot castle in Malibu. With cost per square foot going from $200 to $350+, the firm can cater to quite different audiences, and does offer lower budget alternatives.

Representative Client Comments:
"We just hit it off—they're young with a lot of positive energy." "They're definitely ethereal and conceptual." "He was so good about solving the issues we were having with the city." "They never limited the scope of what we wanted. It was fun for them to design and fun for us to live in."
