FR Review:
Clients tell us David Lawrence Gray perfectly balances the roles of architect, artist and friend, creating austere yet playful modern architecture. Many of Gray's projects feature facades clad in massive sheets of industrial glass, copious use of steel and concrete and vaulted loft-like living space. Gray is roundly applauded for his inventive use of standard materials and his attention to the client's lifestyle. More recently, we've been hearing good things about his successful use of green design.
Gray is described as "a lovely man" who is "extremely competent" at facilitating the process and executing the design. Founded in 1979, there are currently seven on staff. Gray holds degrees from the University of Washington and UC Berkeley. The firm's local work can be seen most frequently in Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Malibu and West Hollywood. Telluride, Seattle, Sun Valley and La Jolla are other cities in which these well-liked architects have completed projects. The firm takes on office and adaptive reuse projects, as well as residential commissions consisting of ground-up single-family homes with substantial budgets.
Representative Client Comments:
"He knows the subtle taste, metaphorically speaking, between dark chocolate and milk chocolate." "David really gets it. He understands his clients and spends a great deal of time with them to fully understand their objectives." "What amazes me is his vision. Sometimes I'll think I know what I want and he'll come up with something that I could never have imagined." "Just last month, someone drove by, came up and asked if they could buy the house." "I trust him implicitly." "We think he is a genius." "All the homes in my neighborhood are just boxes, but he built us the most innovative house with a dramatically inverted pitch roof."
