Admired as one of the guiding lights of design in Los Angeles and around the globe, Barbara Barry consistently creates unassumingly beautiful furnishings and rooms. Profiles of simplicity and quiet reflection belie a glamorous Hollywood allure. Her profound belief in the home as a sanctuary leads to works of clarity, unity and strength. Currently, Barry devotes the vast majority of her time to her many branded manufactured lines.
Born in Northern California, Barry studied at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco but was essentially self-taught in interior design. In 1985, she began working from her dining room table. The business soon flourished, and commercial commissions ensued, including Manhattan's Avon Spa and The Savoy Grill in London. A multitude of product manufacturers have now partnered with Barry to bring her distinctive look to the retail market. Co-branding with Ann Sacks tile, Baccarat crystal (the first American designer to design for the French company), Bagni Volpi Noemi linens, Baker Furniture, Bloomingdale's Bed and Bath, Boyd Lighting, Haviland Limoges china, Hickory Business Furniture, Kallista bath, McGuire Furniture and Tufenkian Rugs, Barry's influence can reach into just about every corner of the home.
Barry works with a staff of twenty professionals, including architects, interior designers, graphic artists and product designers. Barry herself takes a few interior design projects of significant interest per year, with project managers playing a large role. Clients very much enjoy the process, saying Barry has her own point of view but lots of patience. Past clients include Eli Broad, Michael Ovitz and cinematographer John Bailey.
