Bringing familial warmth, calm and stylish ease to her interiors, Kathryn Ireland has a clear viewpoint. With breezy elegance, she makes a house an inviting home for all—including the children and the dogs. Ireland finds unique furnishings of character in Los Angeles, New York and Europe (spending her summers in the south of France). Clients clearly sign on for the lifestyle appeal and comfort Ireland provides, knowing that much less will get done in the summer, but that tranquil beauty will emerge come fall.
Born in Britain, Ireland used her creative talents in a number of callings—public relations, fashion, acting, and styling and producing music videos—before entering interior design. Starting with a home furnishings store in Santa Monica, Ireland took on her first full-scale interior project in 1993. She now has a group of ten to help her with her multifaceted business, including her successful signature line of printed hemp fabrics shown at Hollyhock in LA and a newly opened showroom in London. Ireland also recently signed on as a cast member of the Bravo show "Million Dollar Decorators," which is sure to raise her media profile.
For past clients, Ireland will do a single sheer in a bedroom, but for the uninitiated project budgets start high. There is a mix of the antique, the new and the well-worn. Clients have included Steve Martin, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, Fran Drescher, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Lady Annabel Goldsmith. The firm charges a flat monthly design fee and standard product commissions with evolving budgets. Ireland is known to convince clients to keep their current furnishings, just adding a new slipcover or a complementary pillow. Her fabrics make regular appearances in her rooms, offering a quite consistent theme. Clients tell us they know at first sight that they want Ireland's timeless compositions.
