FR Review:
H&B satisfies a unique woodworking niche with its artisan-inspired design/ build approach. Alois Hager, who hails from a long line of Austrian woodworkers, established the firm in 1970. After eighteen years at the shop herself, Hager's daughter, Lydia Senick, now runs H&B operations along with business partner Matthew Malley. We hear Senick contributes her design expertise--honed early on with interior designer John Lafalce--in working closely with clients to nail their desired aesthetic. H&B focuses on fabricating, installing and finishing smaller, detail-laden built-ins such as entertainment centers and dressing rooms. The firm will also create freestanding furniture and, if the design requires something special and particularly refined, full kitchen casework.
Senick works well with other designers and is assisted by five full-time employees. We're told that since she both conceptualizes with clients and coordinates installations, Senick will not design something that can't be built. Centered in the Avon-West Hartford area, the firm also works in southern Connecticut, Massachusetts and NYC. The pricing is noted as fair.
