Michael McPhail might be located in New York City, but a lot of his furniture repair work comes from Fairfield and Westchester counties. McPhail, a second-generation antiques restorer, started his company in 1980 and has since built a dedicated client base that includes Christie's auction house, antiques warehouses, estates and individual homeowners. McPhail and his four-person staff make housecalls across the area, polishing furniture for projects that can take up to a week. While the company doesn't handle lacquer work, M&M does all kinds of touch-up and French polishing. McPhail is known as a master of matching ancient veneers.
M&M handles American, European and Asian furniture and outsources all lacquer and gilding work. McPhail works very closely with designers, although he will take inquiries from the public. The company charges a standard hourly rate for their services.
