FR Review:
A mainstay on the Bedford green for over a decade, Susan Lifton offers unabashed classical, layered warmth full of multipatterned materials and tailored silhouettes. Clients appreciate Lifton's multigenerational mix, which looks as comfortable today as it did twenty years ago. Lifton is also known for her patience, fine detailing and practical budgetary considerations.
A French major in college, Lifton ran the ad department at Cartier and then did PR at Vanity Fair before moving to Bedford and starting her own business in 1982. Lifton has thousands of fabrics and samples stacked on shelves. Beginning with just a few chairs, clients say Lifton is good about taking it one step at a time, eventually creating a master plan that is designed to work as "long as we own the house."
About three large projects are done at a time with an experienced assistant, mostly in the local area with additional projects in Fairfield and New York City. Detailed trims and welts finish off most pieces, with Lifton often suggesting ways to extend the look without extending the budget. Products are purchased at Classic retail after a minimal home design consultation fee.
Representative Client Comments:
"We valued Susan's opinions so much that we had her look at the house before we purchased it." "Susan is very responsive. She never hesitates when I want to change something--she will either take it back or will get the tradesman to alter it." "While she has a formal air, Susan is highly service-oriented." "We went to New York four times together before I purchased anything." "I have to plead with her to let me choose the more expensive fabric--and then she suggests using it on a pillow or dust ruffle to stretch the budget and get the same look." "When I wanted to do scallops on both the sofa and the chairs, Susan restrained me--rightfully so."
