FR Review:
Known for creating classically English decors, using saturated colors and appropriate antiques, Margot Marston has built a local following. Supporters comment that she is clear, knowledgeable and receptive. Projects may occur in several smaller phases, often starting with a few rooms. Most clients come to the party with family heirlooms and personal treasures, which are coherently incorporated into the new arrangement.
Marston was raised in Southport and has been in the design profession for 30 years. After earning a degree from NYSID, Marston was in sales at Dunbar Furniture and then McGuire Furniture, enabling her to understand the bottom line. After working with esteemed New York designer Pamela Banker for a few years, she established her own firm in 1978. A sole proprietor, about a dozen projects are undertaken concurrently, usually about two of them larger. Her experience allows for efficient design work, with clients stating that she can always find a good choice--usually on the first try. There is now a second office in Stonington at (860) 535-0814, where Marston tends to spend a few days a week.
No design fee is charged, with a Reasonable markup on product and Standard hourlies for nonproduct consultations. Customers say that she encourages the purchase of the best antiques that the budget will allow but is a constructive realist.
