FR Review:
When you sign on with Overland, "you get more of an experience versus a style," which is an esoteric description of the architect's otherwise eclectic aesthetic. In a bit of an architectural dichotomy, Overland's designs are said to "have the warmth of traditional architecture with the excitement of contemporary living." With a highly detailed plan that includes the number of hinges and recommended lightbulbs, Overland and his staff "leave no question unanswered." And when it comes to zoning and building permits, we're told Overland "hunts down answers like a detective." While Overland spends a lot of time with clients to learn their lifestyles and spends a lot of time on-site, some say there's a distinct "business approach" to the project, that could be intimidating to those who haven't worked with an architect before.
Overland, a graduate of the New York Institute of Technology, started this firm of five in 1980. He and his staff take on about twenty to twenty five projects each year, half of which are residential in nature. These are generally medium-sized renovations with budgets starting at $100,000--however, the firm has designed new homes of up to $2.5 million. Sources tell us Overland doesn't choose projects based on the size of their budgets--"he'll do a finished basement if it's creative enough." Overland has also designed religious buildings, office spaces and restaurants.
The architect practices mostly in Fairfield County, but he's also worked in the Hamptons, Massachusetts and New Jersey. Sources tell us the efficiency of the firm allows it to finish projects at very reasonable prices--especially since Overland draws bids on construction. The firm charges a lower fee based on a percentage of overall construction costs or hourly fees.
