FR Review:
Perlini wins the respect and loyalty of clients with excellent resources and strong creativity-for example, when one client wanted to wait to find the ultimate Oriental rug, Perlini had a facsimile of a Sultanbad Persian painted on sisal. Now the client considers the sisal one of her favorite processions and would never give it up for the real thing. The designer is also known for her intermingling of the fine and the found, creating friendly environments, comfortable for the adults, children and the pets to share. Rooms tend to be quite traditional, with prevalence of distinct colors for depth and character.
Perlini spent her student years in Italy and Switzerland, studying at the Academia di Belle Arti in Rome and absorbing the artistic wonders at hand. Returning to the US, she moved to Cincinnati, worked in interior design locally and then headed to New York to work for brother-in-law, Mark Hampton, for almost a decade, becoming the head of design. Perlini then formed a design partnership with Alan Tanksley for six years, and went out on her own in 1993. Currently, there are about five large projects going on at any one time, generally in Manhattan and the surrounding areas.
While Perlini usually encourages the client to invest in some excellent upholstery and some interesting antique accents, she is good about designing custom repo casegoods to help meet the budget. On top of the process and the economics, Perlini has a NY-type design fee and charges Classic retail on product. Clients say they would not hesitate to recommend Perlini to a friend.
