Widely recognized for his "sensitive and tasteful handling" of waterfront sites, this firm truly provides "soup to nuts" services, doing everything from the architecture to interior design right down to the tile, hardware and fixtures. "There's always someone on-site from the firm," clients say, which contributes to the secure environment DuPont and his staff create. Rink, as he is known to his clients, is said to be most comfortable working on projects dealing with a bent on historical architecture--ranging from New England Shingle style to Adirondack and Georgian. DuPont himself handles all preliminary design and pores over renderings that detail the interior, exterior, furniture and overall feel of the house he is designing.
DuPont started this firm, which currently employs seven, in 1973. He is a graduate of Columbia and RISD. Sources tell us DuPont maintains a steady stream of projects, but will turn away work if he is unable to devote the necessary time to the project--he'll even recommend another architect. It is this kind of loyalty and integrity that has generated a clientele that produces, through references, 95 percent of the firm's work.
A good number of the firm's projects originate in the Greenwich and New Canaan areas, although DuPont has been known to travel across New England when the "right design challenge presents itself." The firm charges a standard fee based on a percentage of overall construction costs.
