FR Review:
Jon Halper and Reese Owens are said to bring a "quiet tastefulness" to their work, whether it's the ground-up design of a modern home clad in glass walls or the renovation of an Italianate Victorian home. We're told the firm painstakingly matches, clones and authentically details its renovations and additions to preserve the integrity of the original structure and the intent of the original architect. Both Halper and Owens are said to have "very strong design principals" and are deeply involved in each project, working collaboratively with the client to incorporate their design ideas.
Principals of the firm are Jon Halper, who holds degrees from Harvard and University of Illinois, and Reese Owens, who graduated from Yale and the University of Virginia. The partnership started in 1987, but the two have managed separate locations since 1996 with a total of eight employees. Owens oversees the Washington Depot office and Halper manages the Greenwich location. Sources say the architects favor the use of natural materials that "are as true to the spirit of the architecture to elevate the art of it."
The firm generally handles projects in the $1.5 million to $3 million range, but will take on projects with budgets starting at $350,000. The majority of Halper Owens commissions are residential projects, but the firm sometimes does retail and corporate interiors or educational facilities. The firm charges a slightly higher percentage of construction costs.
