FR Review:
While many others talk a good game about modern with warmth, Alexander Gorlin really means it. Gorlin is praised for his deft creation of "modern, sensual spaces" that maximize the use of space and natural light. There are saturated warm woods, deep shades of luxurious color and sinuous lines throughout. Think Le Corbusier or Frank Lloyd Wright with depth and modern comforts. Described as highly intellectual, Gorlin established this firm of twelve in 1987. While clearly intrigued by the lure of institutional legacy, he has a fondness for residential work, taking on a handful of projects each year, including the apartment of Daniel Libeskind, master planner of The Freedom Tower.

Gorlin holds degrees from Cooper Union and Yale and trained with I.M. Pei. He has taught at the Yale School of Architecture and has long been sought by clients in the media and fashion industries. His wide-ranging portfolio includes designs for apartments, houses, office buildings, affordable housing, high-rise complexes, synagogues, museums, city parks, and household items. Clients say that Gorlin is committed to creating a work of art every time, though some caution that he can be a bit rigid in his thinking about style. Potential clients should familiarize themselves with the look and be prepared to enjoy experimentation. Clients praise Gorlin for his "impeccable taste" and inherent design sense. To that end, Rizzoli has published a monograph of his work featuring 28 projects.

Much of the firm's work takes place in New York City, Westchester, and Fairfield counties, and there have also been projects from Spain to Nova Scotia to California. The firm charges a higher percentage of construction costs. AD 100, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014. AIA Fellow 2005.
