FR Review:
Serious about her business and highly engaged in the process, Jean Callan King has built a strong following in Connecticut. King often seems to take the role of project manager, which speaks to her organizational skills, technical capabilities and professionalism. Sensitive to her clients' proclivities, King ranges from traditional period pure with depth to contemporary distillations with historic reference. All are said to be thoughtful, comfortable and well conceived.
King is the master of many realms. With a BFA in graphic design from RISD, King has done graphic design and illustration and authored/illustrated several books. She is also an expert in 19th-century ceramics and lectured at the Cooper Hewitt and at other institutions on this subject. In 1988, she opened her interior design firm, which is a full-service firm also offering construction management, lighting plans, plumbing spec and art selection. Many clients are New York-based executives with country homes in Connecticut, who appreciate King's full range.
Whether taking on just one chair or new construction, King is commended for giving a comprehensive budgetary view and determining the level of quality appropriate for the situation. A Reasonable hourly supervision and shopping fee is charged and Classic retail on product. ASID, NCIDQ.
Representative Client Comments:
"We are incredibly impressed with Jean. She is one of the few artists we know who can also run a business." "Jean not only did the design but also helped us solve a dilemma with the builder and the stonemason." "Her work ethic is terrific. She is up and available at 7:00 AM each day and lets us know on a daily basis where she is." "She is good about presenting items that are within your cost range once you make that clear, but I suspect not everyone can afford her." "We never felt pushed off to the staff. But when she was away, the staff could keep us on track."
