FR Review:
Known for its hand-scraped and hand-finished floors, I.J. Peiser’s is one of New York’s oldest flooring companies. Owned and managed by Stephen Estrin, the company was established by his great-grandfather in 1909. The company installs, cleans and repairs all types of wood floors. The firm also takes pride in its custom designs and inlays, which are created in Peiser’s own workshop.

This mainly residential company serves most of Manhattan and some areas in the Hamptons, Westchester and Connecticut, with showrooms on East 117th Street and in Harlem. Occasionally, the firm accepts projects as far away as Palm Beach or Oklahoma. Estrin also has a strong commercial following, some of which includes prestigious hotels (The Palace and The Carlyle) and some of the top contracting and architectural firms in the city.

Sources describe Estrin as very professional, honest, reliable, easy to work with and a great craftsman. Delighted customers say that the firm meets deadlines, adheres to budgets and is willing to fix any problem that arises–although some say there’s room for improvement in customer service. Happy clients say the quality of the floors and reliable workmanship is well worth the “upper tier” cost.

Representative Client Comments:
“Absolutely excellent.” “Extremely cooperative.” “One of the fi nest craftsmen around.” “Honest.” “Been here a long time.” “On schedule. Reliable.” “Excellent installers.”
