FR Review:
Serving high-end clients and satisfying their discriminating tastes is not an easy task, but sources say Janos Spitzer does both flawlessly–the same way that he creates his beautiful wood floors. Established in 1962, Spitzer installs, restores, repairs, sands and finishes wood floors for mostly residential and some commercial interiors. From modernists, whose cutting-edge designs require floors with low-grain definition so that they look like “shields of glass,” to traditionalists, who prefer classical borders, intricate medallions or antique finishes, we hear Spitzer “can deliver” with “exquisite” workmanship.

Spitzer works with some of the best designers, architects and homeowners in Manhattan, the Hamptons, Westchester and California. His impressive roster of clients includes Mark Hampton, Inc., The Four Seasons, David Anthony Easton, McMillen Inc., John B. Murray and Philip Johnson, to name a few. Known as one of the best in the country by clients and industry insiders alike for his custom designs and inlays, Spitzer works with local, imported and exotic woods. Everything is crafted and fabricated in his own workshop.

The company has been featured in such prominent publications as The New York Times and Architectural Digest. This firm is also a member of The National Wood Flooring Association. In the Spring of 2002, Spitzer was licensed by the American Institute of Architects to give seminars on wood flooring. Always keeping abreast with the latest trends, Spitzer is an advocate of using Huber Wood and other sustainable products as sub-floors instead of plywood. Recent commissions include replication of an intricate 1895 fl oor for the Convent of the Sacred Heart and as design consultant for the massive Bloomberg building. Samples of Spitzer’s work can be viewed at his 2,400-square-foot showroom, which is regarded by insiders
as a “must-see” in the city.

We hear that the Spitzer team is prompt, attentive, accommodating and very professional. References say that Spitzer himself is honorable, honest, a “hands-on, dedicated businessman” and generally “just terrific to work with.” Although some say that his talent is coupled with an artist’s temperament, the majority agree that the fi rm’s extensive knowledge, commitment to excellence, elegant designs and attention to detail are top-of-the-line - just like its prices.

Representative Client Comments:
“The top man in the business.” “No one can quite match his ability.” “He really understands how to make the perfect wood floor.” “Excellent work ethic.” “Very, very good. Not the cheapest in the world, but worth every penny.” “Great people.” “A genius with an artist’s temperament.” “A wonderful old-world craftsman.” “In a league of its own.”
