FR Review:
Citing that "people treasure the unique flavor every little town in New England has," Jack Franzen has made it a point to be a student of those subtle changes from place to place. Clients say he "gets it right" and "gives you something that also feels wonderful." Most clients look to Franzen's staff for its traditional work, although the firm is said to be just as coherent in a contemporary design language. Sources say Franzen has "fantastic sources" and is said to be a master at choosing rich natural woods. With a landscape architect on staff, J.P. Franzen Associates also designs gardens, pools, and hardscape. References tell us that Franzen has become a magnet for clients with difficult sites--particularly those with waterfront property or those with tricky zoning rules.

Franzen created the firm in 1986 and stands at ten strong--with no plans on growing any bigger. He holds two architecture degrees from Cornell and is a Fellow of the AIA. We're told Franzen works mostly in the suburbs, preferring to "draw instead of drive too far." Of the company's fifteen annual residential projects, about five are ground-up projects. The rest are large-scale renovations, with many taking place in historic districts, which Franzen knows all too well as a member of the historic district commission in Fairfield. The boss is personally involved in each project.

Insiders say Franzen has a knack for turning those difficult sites into beautiful homes that fit into the landscape and take advantage of views. The firm's commissions carry budgets of $250,000 to $8 million. The firm charges a slightly lower fee based on a percentage of overall construction costs.

Representative Client Comments:
"I couldn't be more delighted with Jack. He's just a pleasure to work with." "As long as you keep the lines of communication open, everything will go smoothly." "No hidden fees or change-order costs."
