FR Review:
With a predisposition for fulfilling clients' visions, Sandra Oster creates individualistic spaces full of personality, creativity and ease. Described as "romantic cocoons," elaborate draperies, hand-blocked velvets, unique lighting and distinct metal accents highlight the otherwise traditional ensembles. Oster most often is involved at the commencement of a project, working hand-in-hand with the architect and contractor--a role that she prefers and in which she is reportedly highly effective.
A graduate of RISD, Oster worked as Art Director at Mademoiselle magazine and then as an art director for Henri Bendel and Revlon. Oster began her foray into interior design in 1983, ramping up in 1998 with three assistants. About fourteen projects are in progress at a time, including four to five larger ones. Known as a mainstay in Scarsdale, many clients have happily referred her to their friends.
Oster is not only respectful of the client's intentions but also of their budget and "leaves a stupendous" paper trail with Excel spreadsheets. With the structural work, there is an hourly architectural fee and a design fee based on hours for the decorative work. Products are purchased with a Reasonable markup and oversight fees for certain service providers.
