FR Review:
Highly respected by peers and the established Greenwich set, Jane Gleason and Isabelle Vanneck of Davenport are consummate traditionalists, and proud of it. Classical bones and the finest European and American antiques are awakened with strokes of livable, saturated color, often with amusing oriental highlights or trompe l'oeil details. Well-worn Persians complement Adams mantels. In each room there is also a sublime element of surprise, be it a contemporary abstract or a Biedermeier chair, distinguishing the composition.
Forming Davenport together in 1996, Gleason was previously with Katherine Cowden for over eight years and Vanneck with several art and antiques dealers. Currently, the firm has an extremely capable staff of four, and is engaged in about five large and another eight or so small projects at a time. It is usually a team effort, with Gleason more focused on the palette and soft goods and Vanneck guiding the selection of antique case goods and porcelains. One room redos are often expanded to full home renovations, sometimes including the books on the bookshelf.
Clients span several states and report that the firm knows best but is also very practical. Younger clients may start with just a few good pieces and build over time. No upfront fees are taken, with Classic retail on product and Standard hourly fees on non-commission product. Patrons have absolute trust in the designers to get it just right.
