FR Review:
References are all "just thrilled" with Mary Riley Smith and her work. In New York City and Connecticut circles and beyond, Smith is considered "among the best of the best" in landscape design. Smith renovated and now oversees the prestigious Cooper Hewitt Museum garden, which is generally recognized as the best gallery garden space on Museum Mile. Smith is known for designing gardens with four seasons of interest, incorporating a wide variety of plants, from shrubs and evergreens to exotic annuals.
Smith also includes pots, urns and trellises in her designs. While she does work throughout Greenwich, Bedford and the Hamptons, approximately half her clients are in Manhattan. Smith contracts out and then oversees all garden installation and is happy to train her clients or their gardeners in maintenance techniques. Concerned by the number of poorly planned and underused front properties, Smith wrote The Front Garden: New Approaches to Landscape Design, in which she provides creative ways and detailed plans for making front yard gardens both decorative and functional.
Representative Client Comments:
"We have a beautiful house on a difficult piece of property. We are very pleased with the way in which problems were tackled." "An absolute pleasure to work with."
