FR Review:
Whether doing a Greenwich manor home full of 18th-century master paintings or a period-pure 18th-century square-cut log cabin, Brian McCarthy does all things to perfection. Admired for his innate desire to create rooms of unique character and grace, McCarthy finds extraordinary pieces that are coherently placed in classic frameworks. Many recent clients are collectors of fine works of art or furniture. The firm has a full-time employee stationed in Paris to assist these clients. Trained by master designer Albert Hadley, McCarthy displays both Hadley's professionalism and skill in combining the expected and the traditional with elements of more modern or gutsier protocol.

McCarthy's clients are generally very well established, many with stately homes or apartments, looking to create a personal magnum opus. Regionally, McCarthy has done projects in Conyer's Farm, Stonington and North Salem. Supporters say the firm's client service is outstanding--issues disappear and billing is presented clearly. Additionally, McCarthy is hailed for his depth of knowledge, clarity of presentation and warm personality. About eight active projects are pursued at a time, with nine on staff including three experienced project managers.

References consider McCarthy's work quite expensive, but worth it. Living rooms can be in the $250,000 to $400,000 range before fine antiques. On the other hand, he recently did a local Arts and Crafts home on a much more reasonable budget and is said to be quite practical in children's rooms, using washable $15 per yard fabrics. Also, McCarthy is commended for his "amazing sources here and abroad that can duplicate originals for a quarter of the cost." Supporters are protective, considering McCarthy a friend and a fabulous secret source. They cannot wait to embark on another project with this designer. Elle Decor A-List AD 100 2018, 2019.
