FR Review:
Gullans & Brooks draws consistent praise for its "roundtable design approach," sensitivity to the vernacular and the seamless integration of new additions to old homes. But design is only one reason for the firm's success; insiders say they deliver "great documentation" and a knowledge of the permit process that is "second to none." Sources say the design is firmly rooted in traditional design and has completed numerous Colonial, Georgian, Shingle- and Craftsman-influenced homes and barn conversions. It's no secret that the firm goes to great lengths to work collaboratively with contractors and decorators from the beginning.

Louise Brooks and Vincent Falotico, AIA, stand at the helm of this firm which currently has a team of twenty. Brooks established the firm in 1986 and holds a BFA from Drexel and studied architecture at Notre Dame and Drexel. Falotico is a graduate of Syracuse University School of Architecture. Sources say both partners are very accessible and are always part of the project. The firm makes liberal use of steel and fieldstone and doesn't hesitate to use cedar shingles whenever appropriate. Clients are quick to praise the firm for its personal touch and excellent client relations.

Gullans & Brooks signs about 40 new project contracts each year, which vary in size from $200,000 renovations to $10 million ground-up homes. While Fairfield County is the site for much of its local work, Gullans & Brooks has extended itself to Vail, Nantucket, Cape Cod, Montana and Georgia. The firm charges a higher percentage of overall construction costs.

Representative Client Comments:
"Superb technical skills and the uncanny ability to show earnest sensitivity to the existing architecture, yet satisfy our needs." "They adapted materials so well that I still can't tell what's old and what's new." "They have a massive pool of knowledge and it goes well beyond the design of space." "The process is very clear and articulated with plenty of room for creativity." "They have a tremendous vision in the end product."
