George Dumitru is praised by insiders for his meticulous documentation--whether it's keeping track of budgets, meeting deadlines, sourcing materials or overseeing the construction process. Sources tell us the firm is "happily busy," yet not in a big hurry to expand its staff of three. We're told Dumitru's clients are mainly those who seek renovations to homes of traditional design--particularly Colonial, Victorian, Shingle and/or Georgian influence. A big draw for many of Dimutru's clients is the personal attention he gives them--even if it means putting in hours on the weekends. His sensitive inclusion of large windows and use of lead-coated copper when possible is the architect's subtle trademark.
Dumitru was trained in his native Romania, where he earned a college degree and then earned a second at Pratt Institute. Dumitru earned his stripes with some of the area's most respected firms including Shope Reno Wharton and Kaehler Moore. He is the lead artist and principal of this small studio he founded in 1999. At any given time, the firm has three to five residential projects in various levels of completion. We're told Dumitru "takes all projects very seriously--even small renovations." However, his projects carry construction budgets anywhere from $200,000 to $1.5 million.
The vast majority of Dumitru's work comes from Fairfield County, although he has worked in Westchester and Rhode Island. The firm charges a slightly lower fee based on a percentage of overall construction costs or a fixed fee.
