Miles Redd is hailed as gifted for developing glamorous rooms full of bountiful color and alluring forms while still maintaining a decorous balance. With an original sense of design wit and flair applied to things once traditional, Redd has reconfigured the concept of updated neoclassical. Monogrammed pillows lay atop a rock star's festooned bed, sequins edge Brunschwig chintz swags, Kentshire antiques banter with burlap walls. Clients say Redd's signature style is layered and full, with intricate detail and perfect placement, resulting in a balanced and open feel. In the country, it reflects a dialogue of the ages resulting in a playful yet quiet sophistication. There, twelve-inch heart pine floors ground embroidered linen and unlined taffeta in the main rooms with tartan on the walls of the husband's dressing room.
Redd created the firm in 1999 after he spent five years with Bunny Williams. The designer takes on a wide scope of projects, from small downtown apartments to large homes in Millbrook. Redd has pleased a diverse clientele that includes empty nesters, young professionals and families with his flexibility and excellent collaborative abilities. Running a very small office, Redd is highly accessible with about a third of his time in the regional area.
The firm charges a flat design fee and Low markup on product. There is as much appreciation for flea market finds and forgotten closet items as for exquisite Louis XV antiques. While more modest projects are artfully arranged thrift-store stunners, others are more Fendi meets F. Scott Fitzgerald. Minimum budgets are in the $40,000 ballpark.
