FR Review:
Trained in London and apprenticed to the Loughcrew Studio in Ireland, Sheelin Wilson specializes in the restoration and conservation of gilded and painted surfaces, antique furniture and objets d’art. In business since 1988 in the US, including a term at Sotheby’s restoration, Wilson has built a following among major museums, antiques dealers, designers and private clients. Sources tell us that Wilson loves the challenge of 17th- and 18th-century Italian restoration jobs and traditional gilding. We hear that Wilson also offers expert lacquering, japanning, traditional and oil gilding, exterior and interior architectural gilding, polychrome finishes and painted finish jobs.
Clients marvel at Wilson’s ability to restore almost anything to its original state. They add that Wilson is easy to work with and has reasonable costs. We hear reports of a wide array of accomplishments, from restoring a Dutch metal piece to creating Art Deco tiles. Insiders tell us that Wilson does much of her work for the trade and has taught traditional gilding at FIT. Clients enjoy her witty sense of humor, and find her to be as reliable as she is entertaining.
Representative Client Comments:
“No hesitation. I recommend her 100%.” “She is very personable, conscientious and not inexpensive, but she takes care of it and I can count on her.” “She has strong opinions, and they’re usually right—listen to her.” “She finds the original finish and restores it to its original gilding. She’s very good, and she knows her stuff.” “She took something that was appealing and turned it into something stunning.” “She creates future heirlooms.”
