FR Review:
Robert Orr and his staff are known for a unique design approach that incorporates sociological elements with the "dignity, grace and charm of traditional architecture." Orr, who is known as a highly intelligent and abstract thinker, has no style of record but creates homes that are "appropriate"--whether it's a humble farmhouse in a field or an imposingly elegant estate on the waterfront. Sources say Orr has such a strong grasp on old-time architecture that his designs effectively "resurrect the craftsmanship of generations long gone by."

Orr started his firm, which currently employs fifteen, in 1982 after working with legendary architects Philip Johnson and Allan Greenberg. Orr holds a Master of Architecture degree from Yale. The firm takes on about fifteen residential projects each year, with renovations starting at $200,000 and new homes carrying budgets of up to $10 million and beyond. Clients say Orr has an affinity for rich natural materials but also uses "warm man-made materials" that can save on costs without compromising the design.

The firm works nationally and is said to excel in challenging site configurations including sandy lots in Florida, the Colorado mountain terrain and the coastal Connecticut wetlands. The firm charges a slightly higher fee based on fixed fees, hourly fees or a percentage of construction costs.
