FR Review:
With more than 40 years experience, Harvey Kaufman is said to make each design "a unique response to the client," with design worked from the inside out. We're told Kaufman favors symmetrical designs, which are contemporary in feel, but have an intrinsic classical undertone. These spaces tend to have large windows, open floor plans, and simple, yet elegant decoration and lines. Kaufman is noted for his detailed custom built-ins, cabinetry and fixtures. We're told he is adept at dealing with a wide range of site conditions--from waterfront to cliffside locations.
Kaufman, who holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell, created this firm of four in 1980. The firm once had 25 employees, but Kaufman slowly reduced the size of the firm in order to get more personally involved in each project. We're told this move has made his practice "efficient," creating homes that are "artfully done." The firm generally handles four to five residential projects each year that carry significant budgets starting at $500K and topping out at $6 million.
The majority of Kaufman's work takes place in Fairfield County, but he also does work in Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Florida. The firm charges a lower percentage of overall construction costs.
