FR Review:
From initial client meetings through the end of construction, clients applaud Melanie Taylor for her accessibility and "selfless dedication" to each project. Taylor is known for her "spirited and vivacious interpretations of classical design" including renovations to vernacular American architecture peppered with Caribbean and Southern influences. Her traditionally styled shells are often filled out with traditional interiors, but with an eye to contemporary functionality. These open floor plans are said to be "warm, friendly and inviting."
This six-person practice was established in 1990 after an eight-year partnership in another firm, and training with the highly respected Allan Greenberg. Taylor keeps her workload manageable, taking on only five or six projects each year, ranging from $300,000 renovations to $3 million ground-up homes. Most of the firm's work takes place in Fairfield and Middlesex counties, but Taylor has traveled to the Bahamas, Colorado and Rhode Island for clients.
She has established relationships with a particular contractor but is said to work freely and collaboratively with contractors chosen by the client. Handling all aspects of the design, Taylor is said to be gifted at dealing with shoreline and waterfront sites--a clear influence of her upbringing in the Bahamas. The firm charges a standard fee based on a price per square foot or hourly rate.
