FR Review:
Described as "hands on" and "always on site," Jeff Wilkinson is a dedicated architect who "isn't afraid to get his boots dirty." We're told his designs are traditionally inspired, with a wide range of influence ranging from classical to Craftsman. Clients appreciate Wilkinson's accommodating approach to design, with modern living being a major factor--"he implements modern design solutions for modern living, yet maintains the integrity of traditional design." Wilkinson is deeply involved in each project and is known to sketch during meetings, which has become a big hit with clients and contractors alike.

Wilkinson founded this firm of three in 1994, after working with the likes of Robert A.M. Stern and serving as the editor of Old House Journal. He holds an architecture degree from RISD. Wilkinson also builds furniture for select clients and designs interiors (with the exception of fabrics). The architect favors using stone, heavy timbers and salvaged products in his buildings. We're also told he is big on energy-efficiency practices but puts design as the highest priority.

The firm takes on about ten projects annually, with two thirds being renovations. Budgets start around $300,000 go and up to $2 million. The bulk of the firm's work is done in Westchester County, although Wilkinson has done work across New England and Michigan. The firm charges a lower fee based on an hourly rate not to exceed a certain percentage of overall construction costs.
