FR Review:
Bruce Beinfield is widely viewed as a "real thinking architect" who can interpret the "romantic notions that clients have" about what their dream house should be. This interpretation often becomes a unique amalgamation of classic New England Colonial architecture with modern forms and lifestyle functionality. We're told he excels in tricky waterfront site design. Beinfield is a master of materials. That's what sources in the industry as well as past clients say about this architect, who "has a gift for taking otherwise cold materials such as steel and concrete, and using them in a way that transforms the common feel and perception of the materials." He does this by integrating other carefully chosen materials that "have a richness, patina of age and texture to them without running up the budget."

Beinfield, who holds an Master of Architecture from Colorado, is the sole principal of this firm of eight, which he established in 1987, formerly known as Beinfield Wagner. Insiders say Beinfield delivers creative architectural solutions with utmost respect for the client as a homeowner and purveyor of fine architecture. The vast majority of the firm's work is in Fairfield County, around Darien and Westport, but Beinfield has been known to travel for intriguing design challenges in places like Maine, Wyoming and the Bahamas.

Of the firm's roughly 30 annual projects, about two thirds are residential, ranging from $500,000 renovations to $3.5 million ground-up homes. A typical Beinfield project carries a $1.5 million budget. The firm recently completed an 8,000-square-foot cottage on a waterfront site in Darien that included a heightened sensitivity to environmental and coding issues. The firm charges a standard percentage of construction costs.

Representative Client Comments:
"He's a true artist. I feel he has a wonderful aesthetic sensibility." "It was a real give and take, but he was always available." "The house ended up being a reflection of us, although his aesthetic is also in there, which makes it even better." "We've lived in a lot of houses and we've always had something we wanted to change about them. I don't feel that way about this house. I just love it."
