FR Review:
With strong local contacts and a clear sense of the customer's needs, Laura Sigg, her mother-in-law, Fiona Sigg, and the team at Country Design deliver traditional environments with a flair for the exuberant. Checks and tassels meet stripes and needlepoint with floral patterns intermingled. Supporters praise the firm for its "classic but not stuffy designs" and its excellent flexibility.

Country Design was started in 1977 as a large antiques and reproductions store anchoring a New Canaan corner by Dr. Sigg (a dentist by profession). His wife, Fiona Sigg, began the auxiliary interior design business in 1997. There are six designers, most of them part-time, and Laura who joined the firm six years ago and reportedly works more than full-time. An impressive twenty-plus projects are active at one time, with many long-term relationships.

Patrons consistently mention sensitivity to family living with most of the fabrics and furniture budget-minded and kid and dog friendly. While the "layers and babbles do add up," the fees are very low. The firm charges no design fee (but a minimal consultation fee), a Reasonable product markup and no oversight fees. Budgets can start at $250 for a few pillows to $30,000 for a starter home and go up from there. ASID.

Representative Client Comments:
"I like my home to be fun and cheerful, and they completely understood." "When they delivered a bed that I had approved but looked more distressed than I would have liked, they came back the next day, took it apart and that was the last I ever heard of it." "This was my first experience decorating a house. Laura talked me into making the dining room more formal and she was completely right--mahogany over pine works." "Laura is busier than she used to be--but that speaks to a job well done." "They transformed the house with new curtains and accessories, keeping an eye on the bottom line."
