FR Review:
Sources say DCA stands out from the crowd because of its ability to drastically change the style of old drab buildings into stunning homes with traditional undertones and modern livability. Principals Peter Coffin and John Doyle are also said to practice "masterful site planning" of heavily wooded and hilly lots. Client relations are held in the highest regard, with an emphasis on staying in touch with former customers--whether it's in the form of a Christmas card or a surprise visit to the home years later. DCA tends to work with younger families in the area--some of whom are second-generation clients.

Coffin himself is second-generation--his father started this firm of ten in 1973. Peter Coffin holds degrees from Penn and Miami of Ohio and partner John Doyle has architecture degrees from Maryland and Texas. The two met while working at the much vaunted firm, Centerbrook Architects. Sources say the elder Coffin passed along his innate ability to listen to clients and to "manage expectations." Most of the firm's projects are residential endeavors in and around Wilton, Fairfield, Ridgefield and Westport, although DCA has completed some notable church renovations as well.

Described as "just incredibly nice easygoing guys," Coffin and Doyle usually take on projects with budgets upward of $500,000--although the firm "doesn't hold it against people if they don't have a lot of money" as long as there is an interesting design challenge. The firm charges a slightly lower percentage of overall construction costs.

Representative Client Comments:
"I gave him a mind map, which was flexible on style and fairly loose in concept, yet Peter and I always seemed to be in sync." "I knew what I wanted, but I didn't know what I didn't know I wanted--and Peter helped me figure it out." "I always felt like part of the team and never felt caught in between the architect and the contractor." "It's the little details they included in the home that I enjoy every day."
