FR Review:
Deborah Berke, a professor of architecture at Yale University, has gained an international following for her subtle yet thoughtful spaces designed in a distinctive, minimalist style. These are showpieces of refined simplicity, luxurious yet humble. Modern materials are used in a creative manner: steel and cherry wood cabinets, sliding partitions of aluminum and translucent acrylic. Berke and her "exceptional staff" have been described as "very talented" and "totally professional," producing beautiful, elegant, functional designs. Clients who have retained Berke for residential work commend her as "an artist" and praise her work for its "ease of living."

Berke received a B.F.A. and a B.Arch. from RISD, and a master's in urban planning from City University. The firm does residential work as well as hotels and college arts buildings. Noteworthy projects include several Central Park West and Fifth Avenue apartments, and houses in the Hamptons, Connecticut, and the Caribbean. Berke recognizes and emphasizes the allure of simple, exquisite materials in her designs, evident in her monograph and projects featured in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and numerous design magazines.

Her work's "easy elegance" has earned Berke a number of distinguished jobs, including the 21c Museum Hotels, the interior architecture of 432 Park Avenue, and the Yale University School of Art. Berke works extensively in New York City, Westchester, Fairfield, and Litchfield counties. ID Hall of Fame.

Representative Client Comments:
"The minute I met Deborah I knew she was the one for the project." "We feel privileged to work with her." "So smart, nice, and candid. And she understands the family perspective." "A major player." "Your aesthetics must be very compatible with Deborah's because there is a distinct point of view." "Too hip for some." "Works really well with artists and musicians." "There is a real affection for ordinary materials: galvanized steel over polished marble." "Quite expensive, but totally worth it for a work of art." "Completely professional on all fronts." "The only problem with the project is that it is going to end soon." "On a scale of one to five for quality, I give her a ten."
