By thinking outside the box and always pushing the envelope, Maximum Hardwood Flooring continues to improve and evolve through the years. The firm is helmed by its Brazil-born founder, Evandro Carvalho. With sixteen years of experience behind him, Carvalho prides himself on being a hands-on proprietor, having learned the trade from the ground-up. Starting his career as a sander with a flooring company in Westchester, he joined another firm in New Jersey, where he further honed his skills and eventually became Vice President. Carvalho is certified by the NWFA and holds a Master Craftsman certificate. He now donates his time and expertise to the NWFA as an instructor and teaches at seminars. His duties as a member of the NWFA Education Board include writing rulebooks on proper hardwood installation. He has also written numerous articles for Hardwood Floors Magazine.
Fusing old-school techniques with savvy innovations, Maximum Hardwood specializes in installation, sanding, finishing, staining and creating custom designs and inlays of hardwood floors. The firm has an in-house workshop where they do most of their work. Carvalho has also developed a dustless system for sanding, utilizing industrial blowers hooked up to a silicon hose, which sucks up the dust that accumulates during the sanding process. Though the company is adept at using the latest technological methods in the industry, it still maintains the old-fashioned ways of cutting with a saw and handscraping. Maximum Hardwood is frequently called in for traditional and restoration work, but it can also create contemporary wood floors with unique designs mixing wood with stones, marble, tile, ceramic, copper, aluminum, brass and even leather.
The firm currently has seven employees, with Carvalho, his wife, and brother overseeing most of the work. Licensed, bonded and insured, Maximum Hardwood works with architects, contractors, developers and homeowners in Miami Beach, Palm Beach, Aventura, Sunny Isles, Fisher Island, Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton. Pricing is by the square foot, with installation projects ranging from $2,000 to $110,000. Finishing and sanding starts at $3 per square foot with minimums of $350. The company will also refinish floors that it did not originally install.
In the three years that Maximum Hardwood has been in business, it has been awarded by the NWFA seventeen certificates and was featured in Boca Design Magazine, Hardwood Floors Magazine and two episodes of the TV show "In A Fix" for TLC. The company also built a runway at New York City's Fashion Week in 2006 and was commissioned to build another in 2007. The firm's 1,200 square foot showroom is open to the public.
