FR Review:
Specializing in gut renovations, Goralnick is approached by clients for the firm's ability to incorporate a contemporary take on traditional design. Clients applaud the firm's flexible approach and commend the firm's staff for its skill in dramatizing the small spaces of New York apartments, working with color and furniture as well as architectural elements. The firm also offers interior design services, furniture and lighting product lines. Approximately 85 percent of the firm's annual commissions are residential, half of which take place in Manhattan.

This firm of six, started in 1984, and is headed by principal Barry Goralnick, who holds a degree from Harvard Graduate School. Sources tell us the firm generally takes on substantial projects but will accept smaller ones providing the client connects with the philosophy of the firm and the project is challenging and interesting. The firm has taken on projects around the world, including the Hamptons, Westchester and Fairfield counties, Massachusetts, California, Maine and France.

Current projects include the design of an 8,500-square-foot home in Quogue and the interior decorating for a 3,000 square-foot loft in Chelsea. The firm's work has been sought by a celebrity clientele and featured in many publications, including Architectural Digest and Elle Decor. The firm's proprietary designs appear in several high-end hotel and retail locations, including I. Magnin and the Trump casinos in Atlantic City. Goralnick generally charges a higher percentage of total construction cost but occasionally will work on an hourly rate.
