FR Review:
Down-to-earth, creative and “just plain fun,” Frank Welde of Firefly Studios is “one of the best artists” in Florida. If it hadn’t been for the appropriateness of his last name, Welde may have never become involved with metal working. Thankfully, a friend’s comment steered him in the right direction, and in 1990 he began forging a name for himself in commercial metal working. In 1992, he added functional art and sculptures to his repertoire.
Welde’s “beautiful” work can be found in his art studio, which focuses on his sculptures, and in his 8,000 square foot shop, which houses his more commercial pieces, such as lighting fixtures, beds, railings and gates. Welde works closely with a group of artists, architects, engineers and graphic designers to ensure that every piece is designed, forged and installed to the client's satisfaction.
We’re told that Welde is amicable and patient, and that customers enjoy his company as much as his creations. Because Welde works on myriad projects, prices can range from to $1000 to over $500,000. No matter how small or large the project, clients laud Welde and his team's abilities to work promptly and enthusiastically. His work has been featured in Esquire Magazine, the Miami Herald, and on TLC and the Discovery channel. The Holocaust Memorial also houses Welde's sculptures.
