FR Review:
Since we last caught up with this second-generation master cabinetmaker-turned-contractor, Stephen Fanuka has become a rising star in the high-end construction community. Servicing top designers, music celebrities and moguls from all industries, Fanuka performs a variety of contracting duties on interior renovations all over the established and trendy parts of town. The shop also designs, builds and installs interior millwork in the Hamptons, Westchester and Connecticut. Even though the firm has completed work for the White House, its labor is available to John Q. Public.
Enthusiastic principal Fanuka apprenticed with the same craftsman in Croatia who taught his father, spending summers pulling nails out of cabinets, straightening them and re-setting them in order to learn how to respect the wood. In 1994, Fanuka took over the firm his father Rod established in 1967, along with its staff of 22. Fanuka and his project managers oversee remodels and installations with an average of 100 subcontractors, while his father keeps the mill shop running masterfully. Clients find this friendly firm “busy, but reliable,” noting that Fanuka is “honest about details and risks.” Although mainstream projects range in size from 2,000 to 5,000 square feet with budgets of under $250,000 to $1.5 million, we hear that Fanuka will build you a radiator cover just because he likes you.
